Overview

Cloud Smoothie is a local juice and smoothie shop in the North Houston District offering a variety of refreshing drinks, including smoothies, milkshakes, coffee, and teas. While the business had a strong local presence, it lacked a digital platform for customers to explore the menu or place orders online.

This project focused on designing a foundational eCommerce experience to help the business expand its reach, improve accessibility, and support on-the-go ordering.

The Problem

Cloud Smoothie operated in a “pre-digital” state, creating friction across the entire customer journey:

  • No Website or Ordering Hub
Customers relied on DMs or in-person visits, increasing friction and losing potential off-hour sales.

  • Zero Search Visibility
The business did not appear in local searches like “smoothies near me,” limiting new customer acquisition.

  • Menu Inaccessibility
Flavors, ingredients, and pricing were not easily browsable or searchable.

  • Low Brand Credibility
Without a professional website or story, the brand lacked trust and legitimacy.

  • No Lead Capture or Retention System
No way to collect customer data for repeat engagement or promotions.

  • No Emotional Brand Anchor
Missing a central “story hub” to communicate the Cloud Smoothie experience.

Project Goal

Project Goal

Design and launch a mobile-first ecommerce experience that:

  • Centralizes ordering

  • Improves local discoverability (SEO)

  • Builds trust and brand credibility

  • Creates a repeatable customer funnel

My Role

Web UX/UI Designer

Led the end-to-end experience strategy, including:

  • UX research and opportunity mapping

  • Information architecture and user flow design

  • Conversion-focused UI design

  • Content strategy and microcopy

  • Mobile-first prototyping

Key Strategy & Design Decisions

1. Mobile-First Ordering Experience

Designed a visual, scrollable menu system optimized for quick decision-making and one-tap ordering.

Why: Most users discover and order via mobile—reducing friction increases conversions.

2. Interactive Flavor Discovery

Created a flavor-first browsing experience with ingredient highlights and pop-ups.

Why: Smoothies are emotional purchases—users choose based on cravings, not categories.

3. Persistent “Order Now” CTA

Implemented a floating action button across all screens.

Why: Keeps conversion accessible at all times without disrupting browsing.

4. Local SEO Foundation
Structured the site with:
  • Location-based keywords

  • Google Maps integration

  • Optimized metadata

Why: Capture traffic from “near me” searches and increase local visibility.

5. Trust-Building Content Layer

Introduced:

  • About section (brand story)

  • Ingredient transparency

  • Social proof via Instagram integration

Why: Food businesses rely heavily on trust and visual validation.

6. Lead Capture Funnel (“Flavor Drops”)

Designed a newsletter sign-up for:

  • Promotions

  • New drink launches

  • Exclusive offers

Why: Turn one-time visitors into repeat customers.

Prototype Features

  • Visual Hero Menu (mobile-first)

  • Interactive Flavor Showcase

  • Ingredient Pop-up Modals

  • Floating “Order Now” Button

  • Local Pickup / Delivery Page

  • Google Maps Integration

  • Instagram Social Proof Wall

  • Newsletter “Flavor Drop” Sign-Up

  • Live Order Status Concept

  • Health & Nutrition Transparency Hub

Outcome

The redesigned experience positioned Cloud Smoothie for a full digital launch, transforming it from a social-only presence into a scalable, conversion-ready brand.

Projected Impact:

  • Increased order conversions through reduced friction

  • Improved local discovery via SEO presence

  • Stronger brand credibility and trust

  • Foundation for customer retention through email capture

  • Clear path from discovery → browse → order → return

Closing

Local businesses don’t fail from lack of demand—they lose revenue through friction.

By simplifying access, improving visibility, and creating a seamless ordering experience, Cloud Smoothie can turn casual interest into consistent sales.
